Fall is Here!

The second month of the apprenticeship quickly flew by. September came and went in the blink of an eye, but it was exciting being on the campuses for the first full month with students!

We started our weekly outreach/evangelism events at the campuses. We typically do something different each week to engage and get students to think about different topics that are relevant to them.

We asked students to respond to questions such as “What is a favorite memory from this semester?” and “What memories influenced your view of God or faith?” They then wrote them on note cards to share and discuss.

I started two weekly one-on-one studies with guys in my core (small group). The study is called “Focus on Jesus” or FOJ. FOJ allows us to get to know another person and Jesus, explore scripture, ask each other questions, all while doing life together! Super excited to get to know these guys better and learn something from them as well.

The fall season began, and with it came Fall Camp! Fall camp is a 24 hour camp that runs noon to noon Saturday to Sunday, once a year in the fall. It’s one of my favorite times of the year, as it’s where the Collin campuses of Spring Creek, Preston Ridge, and Central Park get together and really get to know each other.

It was my first fall camp outside of the FOCUS Denton campuses, so I didn’t quite know what to expect. Many friendships are made and enriched at fall camp, and this year was no different. I left with a better understanding of the students and community I’m now a part of. I left camp feeling closer to the students in the ministry, and in particular the guys at the Preston Ridge campus (where I lead a “core” small group).

The night before camp, we had a Preston Ridge guys sleepover at the house of one of the Preston Ridge student leaders. Their family was so inviting and hospitable, even preparing breakfast for us!

Got to drive some of the guys to camp. These guys had so much energy and sang the entire hour and a half drive there!

All of the guys from the two Preston Ridge cores who went to fall camp. I now have a new sense of friendship and brotherhood with these guys, most of who I didn’t know at all a month ago! I left camp feeling like I could truly call these guys my friends.

Prayer Requests
  • All of the student leaders and staff starting FOJ studies. That they'll get to not only get to know Jesus together, but also build meaningful friendships together!
  • For the staff, that we'll continue to spur each other on, find ways to rest, and not forget that we also need to pursue the Lord in everything we do.
  • For students who have yet to know God or people on these campuses.

Once again, thank you so much for your support and prayers. It means so much to me to be able to be a part of all that God is doing in the lives of these students.

With love,
Alex Garcia
